The exhibition Czech Theatre Photography, which is going to take place in May and June 2018, will map the history of this field from the 1850s till nowadays. The exhibition is part of celebrations of the anniversary of 100 years from the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 2018.

The Slav Epic and Three Perspectives on Czech Puppet Theatre celebrate Czech-Japanese relationships

On May 24, the exhibition Three Perspectives on Czech Puppet Theatre was launched in the National Art Center Tokyo, where Mucha’s Slav Epic is exhibited now. The exhibition is part of the program The Year of Czech Culture in Japan, which is celebrated on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the revival of Czech-Japanese diplomatic relationships. The exhibition is a result of cooperation between the Arts and Theatre Institute and Czech Centers.

Czech Scenography First League Presented in Columbus, USA

Czech theatre returns to the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio. The exhibition Shakespeare in Prague: Imagining the Bard in the Heart of Europe showcases scenographic designs, photographs, costumes and models related to important Czech productions of William Shakespeare’s plays from the early 20th century until nowadays. The exhibition is organized by the Columbus Museum of Art in cooperation with the Arts and Theatre Institute and the National Museum.

The exhibition “The Tradition and the Present of Czech Puppets” presents the cultural phenomenon acknowledged worldwide

The Arts and Theatre Institute, the Czech Centre in Sofia and the Puppet Fair Sofia opened the exhibition “The Tradition and the Present of Czech Puppets” on Friday, September 19, 2014. The exhibition is a part of the 8th international Puppet Fair and presents more than 50 exhibits, photographs and scenic designs. The Czech Republic is also represented by Georges Méliès’s Last Trick staged by the Drak Theatre from Hradec Králové, and a workshop for children and teenagers.

At the Showing of the Exhibition ‘Theatre and Revolution’ in Moscow – Remembering the Role of Václav Havel in the Velvet Revolution

On Monday, 19 March, hundreds of Russians streamed into Moscow’s Young People’s Theatre to pay tribute to late Czech president Václav Havel. During the commemorative evening called ‘A Word about Václav Havel’ an exhibition was installed in the theatre titled ‘Theatre and Revolution’, prepared by the Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague. This slightly downscaled version of the exhibition presented a cross-section of the most important stages in Prague and Brno in which the events of November and December 1989 took place.

MARIONNETTES AN ZERO – an exhibition of Czech puppetry at the World Festival of Puppet Theatre in France

On Friday, 16 September, a gala opening was held at the town hall in France’s ‘puppetry metropolis’ Charleville-Mézières for the exhibition Marionnettes An Zero (Puppets since Year Zero), which was organised by the Arts and Theatre Institute as part of the biennial World Festival of Puppet Theatre (16. 9. - 25. 9. 2011). The festival, which this year is celebrating its 50th jubilee, on this occasion welcomed 132 theatre groups from 28 countries in its main programme, 120 groups in the accompanying programme taking place on the streets, and 14 exhibitions drawing attention to the history of puppet theatre in the host region of the Ardennes and in other centres of puppet art, one of which is without a doubt the Czech Republic.

An extensive monograph published on the occasion of Miroslav Melena's exhibition

The Arts and Theatre Institute in cooperation with Teatrum Mundi o.s. has prepared an exhibition IN THE SERVICE OF THEATRE – Miroslav Melena / Scenographer and Architect which is held on June 8-28 on the premises of Prague's Old Town Hall. Miroslav Melena is without doubts one of the most significant contemporary Czech sceongraphers and theatre architects. The exhibition introduces both his scenography and architectural work.
